MILITARY SERVICE

Bill Douglas

Bill Douglas has served his country both on active duty and in the Army Reserves. Bill was initially commissioned as an officer in the combat arms, served as a Tactical Intelligence Officer, and transferred to the Army Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAG). As a veteran of the Vietnam era, Bill is a member of American Legion Post 143, the largest American Legion Post in Idaho.

Bill and Geri Douglas served their first married years and started their family while Bill was in active military service. Among other duties, Bill was an active duty JAG prosecutor who served overseas in Germany, Alaska, Washington, D.C., and Ft. Lewis, Washington.

Bill DouglasBill prosecuted his first murder case while serving in Alaska, and he received the "Outstanding Appellate Advocacy Award" while assigned to the Government Appellate division in Washington, D.C. Bill continued his military service after moving to Kootenai County in 1984, and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel in the JAG Army Reserves. His duties included civil legal counseling to the men and women of the Army Reserves to include the preparation of hundreds of wills and other legal documents for them. A critical part of Bill's mission was to provide legal and family counseling to Army reservists who were deployed to Operation Desert Storm in the Persian gulf, Bosnia, and other sites of overseas hostilities. Bill also served as a Survival Assistance Officer to provide legal and administrative assistance to families whose loved ones had been killed on active duty.

Among other awards, Bill has received the Army Meritorious Service Medal and three Army Commendation Medals for his service as a JAG officer.

Bill attended the Judge Advocate General's School located at the University of Virginia, graduated from the both the JAG and Intelligence Officer Basic Courses, Advanced JAG Course, and the Army Command and General Staff College.
