Geri and I have been married for thirty years. We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary on June 2, 2003.
We have three sons, Matthew James (23), Jeremy William (21), and Christopher Tyler (17). Matt is a senior at Boise State University. Jeremy attended and Christopher presently attends public school in Coeur d’Alene.
We were married shortly before I entered active Army duty, and our lives started with much traveling and reassignments. We made lifelong friendships while in the military and have great memories of the places we've called home.
Our greatest memory is our involvement in the Vietnamese Childrens' Airlift in April, 1975, twenty-five years ago, when we were one of many military couples who assisted with the care, housing, and transportation of hundreds of infants evacuated from Saigon shortly before it was overrun by the Communist Vietcong. These infants were airlifted to McChord Air Force Base from the Southeast Asia. Most were given to the Americans by their Vietnamese parents who were later killed by the Vietcong or are missing. In 1996, I had read that one of these infants had graduated first in his class at the Air Force Academy. An older child graduated first in his class at West Point in 1993. I recall thinking to myself, "What a great country we live in," where such children, rescued from a totalitarian regime, go on to graduate from our top military academies.
Geri and I moved to Kootenai County in 1984. We are raising our family and we have the concerns of all parents for the health, safety, and welfare of our children and families.
Geri and Bill are involved in several community volunteer activities. Geri is the first woman volunteer firefighter for the Hayden Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Geri is past president of the Kootenai County Substance Abuse Council and was active in bringing the D.A.R.E. program to Kootenai County in 1991.
